Epilogue
**Ten Months Later…**
Belle was red and sweating as she caught her breath. She didn’t know how much longer she could keep this up, it had already been two hours and she was exhausted.
“Ok Belle, push.” Dr. Bader instructed from the end of the bed.
Belle took another deep breath, grabbed ahold of Shawn’s hand and bared down.
“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Take a breath and go again.” Shawn instructed as he stood by his wife’s side and coached her through the contractions.
“Ok Belle, you’re doing great. I can see the head.” Dr. Bader said. “Now just one more push and you’ll have your baby.”
Belle was leaning back, trying to catch her breath. “I don’t know if I can do this.” She cried as she felt another contraction coming on.
“Yes you can sweetie. Come on just one more push.” Shawn told her as he took a cold cloth and wiped the sweat from her forehead.
Belle took a deep breath. “Ok one more. But that’s it!!” She grabbed his hand again and pushed with everything she had.
“Ok Belle the head is out…… here come the shoulders… and….” The room was suddenly filled with a loud cry. “It’s a boy!” Dr. Bader announced as she held up the dark haired little boy who was doing a good job at announcing his arrival. She placed him on Belle’s chest and smiled.
Belle wrapped a blanket around her son and kissed his forehead. “Hello my sweet baby boy.” She gazed at him and her sight became blurred with tears. “Shawn we have a son.”
Shawn wiped his eyes as emotions overcame him too. “Yes we do sweetie.”
“Time for your daddy to hold you.” Belle told the child as she handed him to Shawn.
Shawn took the tiny bundle in his arms. “Hey little man.” Shawn held out his finger and it was soon in his son’s grasp. “Nice grip slugger.”
“Did you decide on a name?” The nurse asked as she wrote on a tiny bracelet.
“Yes, his name is Evan Beauregard Brady.” Shawn said as he stared down at their baby.
The nurse smiled and wrote the name on the bracelet. “That’s a very cute name for a very cute little boy.” She said as she secured the band on the boy’s tiny ankle.
“Thank you.” Belle said as she laid back and watched the father, son interaction.
“I’ll give you a few moments together before we take him to the nursery.” The nurse walked out of the room leaving the two with their baby.
Belle moved over a little and Shawn sat on the bed beside her. “Well Belle you did it.”
Belle placed her hand on his shoulder and caressed her son’s dark hair with the other. “No Shawn, we did it. We did this and he is so beautiful.”
“He’s perfect just like you.” Shawn kissed Belle gently. “How are you feeling?”
“Not too bad. That hurt like you wouldn’t believe though.” She told him and she tried to get comfortable.
“Yea well the best things in life are worth the pain.” He told her as they all cuddled together on the bed.
As she thought about it she realized he was right. The best things we were the pain. Evan was worth the pain of labor and delivery. Then she thought of the heart ache she had gone through and knew that it was worth it in the end. Shawn was worth the pain she had gone through for him. Looking at her son and husband together and thinking about their daughter waiting anxiously down the hall to meet her brother she realized though that maybe love didn’t hurt that much after all and when it did, she now realized it was worth it. For, had she not gotten over the pain, she wouldn’t have all the things she now had.
