Chapter 9
“Come on in.” Belle said as she slid open the door to the loft.
Shawn looked around and nodded. “Very nice. I can’t believe Brady gave it up.”
“Yeah, well since he and Chloe are engaged, they decided to move in together so they could see what married life will be like.”
“I give it a month before Chloe kicks his ass.” Shawn knew how much of a slob Brady was and how immaculate Chloe was. She would go postal the first time he so much as left a sock on the bathroom floor.
Belle went to the kitchen to grab some drinks. “Oh, I’m pretty sure she already has a few times.”
“So how have things been around here? Is everyone doing ok?” He asked as he sat on the couch and looked at the pictures that were set on the coffee table.
Belle sat down next to him and handed him a soda. “Well Sami and Lucas got married and had two more kids. Faith is one and a half now and they're expecting Matthew in about a month. Carrie and Austin got back together and have a little girl named Caitlin who’s almost one. Eric and Greta have a set of twin boys, Dustin and Justin, who are barely a month old. Rex and Mimi are engaged, Philip and Cassie are engaged and Brady and Chloe are engaged.”
Shawn just stared at her with his jaw partially dropped. “Wow. I had no idea I had missed so much.”
“Yeah well, things in Salem happen fast.”
“Obviously.” He looked over at her. “So what have you been up to?”
“Working at Basic Black. I’m head of the fashion department.” She picked up her sketchpad and showed him the designs. “I’m working on a bridal line right now. I figure since I have three perfectly good models, I may as well use them.”
He flipped through the drawings and nodded. “So I take it the tight, sleeveless one is for Cassie?”
Belle laughed. “Yep, she wanted modern and gave me details so I put it together. She loves it.”
Shawn put the paper down beside him and turned to Belle. He let his hand caress her cheek and slowly brought his mouth to hers.
Belle felt her head spinning as he kissed her. She let her hands wander from his hair down his neck and to his chest. She felt his rock hard abs and smiled a little. Using her free hand she took her sketchpad and moved it to the floor before she laid herself down, pulling Shawn on top of her.
She loved the way his lips felt as they grazed her neck. It nearly drove her insane has he teased her collarbone with the tip of his tongue. Somewhere in the back of her head she could have sworn she heard her door open but she was too caught up in the passion to pay attention. That is until she heard a very familiar voice.
“Belle!!!!!!!! What the hell is going on?!?!?!?”
Shawn and Belle stopped what they were doing and looked up. Once they saw Brady staring back they quickly sat up. “Well Brady, you took health. I think you know what was going on.” Belle mumbled as she tried to compose herself.
Brady could feel his anger rising. “I know what you were doing. I just want to know why. Why with him? After the hell he put you through, why in God’s name would you subject yourself to that again?”
Shawn stood up. “Look man, I explained everything to Belle. She and I decided to try again. I admitted I made a mistake. I told her I’d spend the rest of my life making it up to her. I’m not gonna hurt her again.”
Brady was now seeing red. “Wrong answer!” He slammed his fist into Shawn’s stomach.
“BRADY VICTOR BLACK! What the hell?!?! Is that your way of solving every damn problem you have?!?” Belle got down on the floor next to Shawn. “Are you ok?”
He was holding his stomach. “Yea, just a little out of breath.”
“I can’t believe you’re standing up for him! Have you gone off the deep end?” Brady asked incredulously.
“No but I really think you have. Can’t you solve anything and not have someone get the shit knocked out of them in the process?!?”
“Not when he almost killed you. I can’t just forget that.”
“That’s another thing Brady. How dare any of you tell him? It wasn’t your place. You had no right!” Belle yelled.
“I’m not the one who started that one. Rex brought it up and when Shawn asked what the hell we were talking about Rex blurted out that it was his fault you almost died. I didn’t tell him the story. Hell, I told Rex to shut up.” Brady replied defensively.
“How many times do I have to tell all of you not to solve my problems for me? If I had wanted Shawn to have the wind knocked out of him and a bruised jaw, I would have done it myself. I don’t need my big brothers to beat the crap out of every guy who hurts me.”
“Well you sure have one hell of a way of dealing with things. Making out with him. Yeah, that sure taught him a lesson.”
“Actually Brady he came by a couple of days ago and I chewed him out. I did a lot of thinking though. As much as he hurt me by leaving it would have only hurt me more to know that I had another chance with him that I passed up. I couldn’t live with that.”
Brady just shook his head. “Fine Belle. It’s your life. Just don’t expect me to congratulate you or to be happy about this. In my opinion, you’ve just made the biggest mistake of your life.” With that said, he turned and walked out, slamming the door behind him.
Part of her wanted to run after him but she knew he needed time to cool off.
Shawn put his arm around her. “He’ll be ok. He just needs time. He’ll come around.”
Belle leaned her head on his shoulder. “I just hope the rest of my family doesn’t take it as horribly as he did.”
Shawn rubbed his stomach. “Yeah, me too. I don’t think I can take getting punched by every man in your family.”
She laughed and hugged him. “You’re the only person who can make me laugh even when it feels like everything is going wrong.”
Shawn kissed her forehead. “I just love seeing you smile Angel. How about you go lay down and I’ll come up and rub your back as soon as I get you a big bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream.”
Belle’s head popped up. “With whipped cream?” She asked with a glimmer in her eyes.
He laughed. “Of course. I’ll even put a cherry on top.”
She quickly kissed him and then stood up. “You’re the best Shawn.” She said before heading up to her room.
Once she was upstairs he went into the kitchen and started to make her ice cream when suddenly his cell phone started ringing.
“Shawn Brady speaking.” Shawn felt suddenly queasy. “What the hell do you want?” he paused as he listened to the annoying voice. “I’m not coming back so get over it. I did what I said I would do and now I’m done.” He had finally had enough. “Look we’ll talk about this later. I’m with someone right now and she‘s waiting. Goodbye.” He hung up the phone and shoved it in his pocket. There was no way he was going to let Belle get hurt again. He finished making her sundae and headed upstairs, vowing to do whatever it took to make sure they were never split up again.
“Come on in.” Belle said as she slid open the door to the loft.
