Chapter 8
When she arrived home, Belle headed straight for the shower. While the warm water washed over her she kept thinking of Shawn. His chocolate brown eyes. His smile and the way he laughed. She wrapped her hair in one towel and then wrapped her body in another before heading off to her closet.
“Hmmmm….. I guess something light since it’s not too cool outside yet.” She flipped through the pants section and selected some khaki capris. She then chose a three quarter sleeve, black, button up shirt and a pair of high heeled sandals.
Once she had done her hair and makeup she checked the time and realized it was already 7:00. But that still meant she had an hour. An hour of waiting. She knew it would pass slowly if she stayed by a clock so she grabbed the phone.
“Hello?”
Belle was as giddy as a five year old in a candy store. “Hey Meems! Guess what?!?!”
“You’re marrying Nick Carter, you’re moving to California to live in a huge mansion and you’re taking me with you because you couldn’t bare to live without me.”
Belle giggled. “Nope, but close. I have a date tonight.”
Mimi was now intrigued. “Oh? And who might I ask is the dashing Prince Charming that captured your heart?”
Belle bit her lip. “Well don’t freak out… it’s Shawn.”
Mimi’s jaw dropped and the phone fell to the floor. She hurriedly picked it up. “As in Shawn Brady?”
“The very same. He sent me a note asking me to see him.” She held up some gold hoops to her ears trying to see if they would work with her outfit.
“I’m sure you’ve already heard this but have you gone mad?!?” Mimi shrieked.
“No I haven’t. I just don’t think I could live with myself if I didn’t at least give him a chance to explain himself.” She hooked an earring through her ear and then put the backing on it.
Mimi sighed and sat down. “I understand. Hell, I’ve given Rex a million chances and I can’t say I wouldn’t give him a million more. Just promise me one thing?”
“What’s that Meems?”
“When this all comes out, and it will, PLEASE don’t tell Rex that I knew. I’d never hear the end of it. As it is I think he’s at the gym, on a date with a punching bag.”
Belle rolled her eyes at her brother’s antics and laughed as she pictured Rex taking out his anger on some poor punching bag. “Don’t worry Meems, mum’s the word.”
“Ok. Well have fun tonight! I have to go pick up dinner. I’ll talk to you later though. Ciao sweetie.”
“Ok bye Meems.” Belle hung up the phone and looked through her perfume bottles. So many choices, so little time. She finally decided on the vanilla scented one, quickly sprayed a little in the air, let it fall on her and then headed out the door.
She drove to the park and then walked down the familiar paths to where she used to play as a child. As she reached the sandbox she gasped at the magnificent beauty in front of her. There were candles on the wooden edges and a large blanket in the center with different foods covering it. She felt an arm slide around her waist and she gave a tiny smile. “It’s amazing Shawn.”
“No you are.” He whispered in her ear. He took a hold of her hand and led her to the blanket. “So are you ready for dinner?” He uncovered two dishes from Tuscany and a platter filled with chocolate covered strawberries.
“Shawn you are too much.” She said as they started eating.
Once they had finished their dinners Belle reached for a strawberry but was stopped by Shawn. “Allow me.” He lifted a berry to her lips and bit into it. He saw some chocolate remains on her lips and couldn’t resist any longer. He leaned in and gently kissed her, licking the sweet treat completely off.
Belle’s breath caught in her throat as the kiss ended. She had never felt so alive. “Um, wow.” was all she could manage to say.
Shawn chuckled. “Well maybe we should try that again.”
“What are you waiting for?” Belle was only inches away from him and could feel his breath on her’s.
He kissed her so deeply that he felt as though his soul was draining into her. When they finally broke apart both were breathing as though they had just run a five mile marathon. “You know, maybe we should continue this somewhere else.” He suggested as he tried to catch his breath.
Belle nodded her head. “Yea, good idea. How’s my place sound?”
“Perfect. Let’s go.” Shawn stood, picked up Belle and carried her to the car. He made a silent reminder to thank Philip later for offering to pick up the stuff from the candlelit picnic. Once they got to Shawn’s car he opened the door, placed her inside and kissed her lightly before closing the door. He climbed in the driver’s side and hey drove off into the night.
