It had been a year since she had left. The longest year she could remember. As she sat on the bed Mimi Lockhart thought about how hard it had all been. The hardest thing she had ever had to do was leave him. She loved Rex but what could she do? He told her he didn't want her around. He said the only person he needed was his sister but that she was dead. When he walked away it felt as though her heart went with him. She knew she should have gone after him but her pride got in the way so with her head hung low, she had walked away from him and that night, without a word, left town.
But now she was going home. She needed to see her friends and, as much as she never thought she would say it, she needed to see her mother. Most of all she needed to see him. She had to see Rex and tell him how much she loved him.
She quickly took her suitcases to the car and went back upstairs. She looked down at the last two things she needed to put into her SUV. She was sure Rex would be shocked when he saw what she had brought back to town. She had been planning on telling him but then his sister had died and he was gone. Now it was time to go back and tell him everything. She grabbed each of them and took them downstairs. With one last look around her house she glanced down at the two infants who stared up at her.
"Ok you two, let's go see your daddy." And with that they were off to their holiday homecoming.
