Chapter4
She didn't know what to say to him. What could she say? She just stood there in shock for a moment before saying the only word she could come up with, "Shawn".
He stared at her. She was still as gorgeous as she was when he had left her. "How have you been?"
He couldn't be serious. How had she been? What was he thinking? Was he even thinking at all? She was suddenly filled with rage. "How have I been?! Well let me think about that Shawn. You left without giving me a reason. You didn't bother to call me once or even send a letter. Do you have any idea what so ever as to what that did to me?" She didn't bother to let him respond before she started cutting into him again. "Oh, no, wait, you wouldn't know would you? Because while you were off doing whatever the hell it was you were doing, I was the one who was left here to suffer. I was the one who was miserable and heartbroken. Not you."
"That's where you're wrong Belle. I was miserable. I was heartbroken." Shawn cut in, his voice shaking. "You will never know how horrible I felt about it all."
Belle looked at him with resentment. "Well you have a funny way of showing it. For two years I wondered what I did wrong Shawn. For two years I prayed that you would call me. I spent two years on false hope."
"But it's not false hope Belle. I'm here. I'm back now and I'm never leaving again."
"If you love me as much as you claim to then why did you leave in the first place?"
He ran his hand through his thick, brown hair and turned his gaze away. "I can't tell you that right now."
Belle swallowed the large lump that was forming in her throat and gritted her teeth together. "Well then, until you can tell me, I can't forgive you. After how much you hurt me, the least I deserve is an explanation. But I guess you're not capable of that. Goodbye Shawn."
With that said she slid the door shut in his face and leaned her back against it as the emotions came over her. She slowly slid to the floor as she shook with sobs. Why did he have to do this to her all over again? She could have started fresh but now he was back. Now he wanted her back. Now she wanted him too. Damn him! She didn't want to want him. She wanted to hate him. She wanted to not want to be anywhere near him. Too bad what she wanted to feel for him was the complete opposite of what she actually did feel for him.
Outside the loft
'Damnit Brady! You really messed up this time.' He told himself as she shut the door. Why did he leave? Why the hell did he hurt her? He knew he shouldn't have. He knew he should have stayed with her. With his head hanging he walked to the elevator and then out of the building. After driving for what must have been an hour he ended up at the Brady Pub.
As he walked in the bell above the door rang and every head in the restaurant turned to see who had come in. Several people gasped and others whispered.
A short, older woman walked up to him. "Shawn-Douglas?"
He gave a small smile. "Hi grandma."
Caroline pulled him into a tight hug. "Oh Shawn! We've missed you so much."
"I missed you too grandma."
She released him and then led him to a table. "So Shawn what'll it be?"
"Just get me some fries and a coke grandma. I'm just not that hungry."
Caroline sat down across from him. "What happened?"
"I went to see Belle. She wasn't exactly thrilled to see me. Actually, irate is more accurate."
"Did you expect any less?"
He shrugged. "I just figured she would be happy I was back. I know I messed up. I told her I was sorry. I don't know what else I have to do."
Caroline sighed. "Shawn dear, you'll have to just give her some time. That's the best thing you can do for her right now."
"I know. I just had hoped things would be normal again." he tried to explain.
"Honey, you hurt her very badly when you left. She's never fully recovered from that blow. Since you left she just lost that sparkle she once had. Just give it some time. If it's meant to be it will be." She rose from her seat and went to get his food.
Shawn sat at the table in silence. Had he really hurt her that much? Had he really made her lose her sparkle? His thoughts were cut short by the ringing of the bell above the door.
When he looked up he saw three blonde haired men and three women walking in the door and his heart almost stopped. He was as good as dead when they saw him. He looked around wondering if he could make an unnoticable getaway. It was too late. He caught eye contact with one of them.
The anger in the man's eyes was apparent. "You sorry son of a bitch!"
