Rex arrived home that night exhausted but with a feeling of excitement. After meeting his children he had a whole new outlook on life. He couldn't wait for the next day to come so he could see them. The fact that he was taking Mimi to dinner was also a big plus for him. His only dilema was what he would do about Jennifer. He liked her but she just wasn't the one he wanted to be with for the rest of his life. Mimi was.
As he sat on the couch and flipped on the TV he felt a pair of arms wrap around him from behind.
"Hey honey. How did everything go?" Jennifer asked as she kissed his neck.
She was hitting a hot spot for him and she knew it but he couldn't give in. He didn't want to be with any woman but Mimi. "It was great. The babies are great and Mimi seemed to be doing good. We're going out to dinner tomorrow night." He added hoping to give her a hint.
She was blazing inside but she wouldn't let him know it. She had a plan and she would be damned if she was gonna let the chance slip away. "How about I cook us something? What do you feel like? Spaghetti or Chicken Parmisan?"
He sighed and wished she would have taken what he said as get out. "Spaghetti's fine."
As Jennifer went to work cooking, Rex put his feet up and watched football. In the kitchen Jennifer was cooking and smiling to herself. So far, so good. A few hours and she would have everything she had always wanted.
"Rex, dinner's ready!" She called thirty minutes later. "I'm gonna have some wine with dinner. Do want some?"
"Sure." Rex trudged to the table wishing that the woman sitting across from him was Mimi. What had he seen in Jennifer to begin with? Sure she was cute but she basically had oatmeal for brains and wasn't interested in anything he had to say. All she ever wanted to talk about was shopping and whatever pop group is famous at the moment. It was like dating a seventh grader.
Back in the kitchen Jennifer had grabbed to wine glasses and was filling them up. However, before she took them to the table she had split open a capsule, emptied it's contents into a glass and stirred it up. She gave Rex the glass that contained her special ingrediant while she took the other. "To us." She tapped her glass to his, sipped her wine and watched over the brim of her glass, hoping he would do the same. When he did she smirked and started eating.
Rex took a bite of his spaghetti but had suddenly become quite drowsy and felt as though he were drunk. Everything was becoming blurry. That was the last thing he remembered before everything went black.
The next morning.....
Mimi had been up with the twins since six and was finally getting a break since they were down for their morning nap. She thought of the day before. When Rex had come close to kissing her then asked her to dinner. His soft lips touching her cheek. She smiled to herself and hoped that tonight they could pick up where they left off.
After an hour she couldn't take it any longer. She found the phone and dialed Rex's number.
"Dimera residence. Mrs. Dimera speaking." Came the sugary sweet voice of a female from the other end.
Mimi couldn't catch her breath at first. It felt like someone was clenching her heart. "I-I'm sorry. I must have the wrong number." She hung up the phone, went to her room and began to pack. She wasn't going to let Rex break her heart again. She was going back to California.
On the other side of town at Rex's house Jennifer was grinning wickedly and gazing at the wedding band that was now on her finger. She had not only succeeded in making Rex her husband but also in running off Mimi. "Nope, life doesn't get sweeter than this." she said to herself before draping her arm over her husband who was sound asleep next to her.
